Asphaltene aggregation analyses by Rayleigh scattering and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) were compared to examine the relationships among the degree of asphaltene aggregation (Dagg), the radius of gyration (Rg, nm), and the molecular weight of aggregates (Mw). We used two kinds of asphaltenes at 20-50000mg/L in toluene or toluene/pentane mixed solvent (10 vol% of pentane) at room temperature. The results clarified the relationships of Rg = 1.4Dagg – 1.4 and Mw = 4488Rg1.7.
