Abstract
The present study aims at measuring non-monetary value of renewable energy use in a local community based on willingness to pay (WTP). Questionnaire survey was conducted with 1,000 residents in Iida-city, Nagano-prefecture to reveal their WTP for the local benefits. The median WTP per household-month was estimated to be \686. Furthermore, the possible installation of renewable energy technologies was calculated based on the median WTP and as the consequence of the installation, the potential CO_2 reduction and electric self-sufficiency in the city were also estimated.
