Abstract

Wood from natural forest has been utilized as a firewood and charcoal in the cycle of 15 to 30 years in the past in Japan. However, these sustainable system has collapsed since the fuel revolution by using fossil fuel. On the other hand, due to the sluggish domestically produced timber use, artificial forests are said to have a declining growth and a decline in ecosystem services due to the aging. From the viewpoint of departure from fossil fuel dependence and sustainable forest biomass utilization, we clarified the demand amount and the suppliable amount of forest biomass in short harvesting cycle in Oguni Town, Yamagata prefecture. We presented specific numerical information on how to use wood to support the sustainable biomass use of chips to thermal supply, electric power generation, and woody pellets for home heating.
