Abstract

It was necessary to improve the sorting performance and decrease the energy consumption, install small space of separation device in mechanical recycling using waste plastics. A sink float separation tank was designed taking several conditions into consideration for example the shape of the tank and the number, flow rate of the fluid (water) and the angle of the spiral plate in a tank. In this study, wet sorting system on waste plastics by vertical tank was designed on three dimensional computer-aided design (3D-CAD) and a test apparatus was made by a three dimensional printer. A spiral dashboard was installed in the cylinder. The experimental results showed that in the two tower system of spiral angle 20-30 degree, recovery rate was highest 95% as Re were calculated on 2000 to 3000. It was concluded that improved vertical tanks on flow rate from 9 to 15 liters per minute indicate the high sorting rate higher than 90%.
