Abstract

To analyse the thermal environment of green spaces, ground temperature pattern and land-use is examined for the area of 7.7 km square in the west part of Tokyo using Landsat TM data. From the analysis of these distributions, following results are demonstrated.
1) Low temperature zone and green spaces coincides well especially in summer.
2) In summer contrasts of temperature between the green space and its surroundings are very large. But the intensity decreases as season changes and is smallest in winter.
3) Broadness of the green space and the ratio of forest area in the green space have a positive effect on temperature cooling in the green space.
4) Temperature of surroundings area is also decreased by the influence of green space and the range of the influenced area can be estimated.
