Abstract
All of the national natural monuments concerning plants were examined to reconsider the conservation concepts and changes of the natural monument designation. Preservation of natural monument system had been a symbol for nature conservation for a long time. However, the destruction of natural environment resulting from the rapid growth of economy needs in the purposes and objectives of the natural monument system. Based on these circumstances, the concept of the natural monument system has converted from protection of rare objects to general objects with the change of its rules from “preservations of materials for nationalism and for science” to “conservation of plants with high academic/scientific values”.
