Abstract
Tensile and compressive tests were carried out about the tensile pre-worked plates of 5083-0 and 7N01-T6 alloys. The strain aging and the Bauschinger effect are discussed on the basis of stress-strain diagrams. Nearly the same stress-strain curves are recorded in the reloading test in which the specimens are held at room temperature for 20 minutes and for 1 month after preworking. The fact shows freedom from the strain aging. Slight softening is found on the 5083-0 alloy heavily preworked and aged for 1 month. The proportional limit of the plates lightly preworked is nearly equal to the preworked stress, but that of the plates heavily preworked gradually decreases with increase in the preworking strain. The compressive stress-strain diagram of the tensile preworked 5083-0 plates is higher than that of the base alloy, but that of the 7N01-T6 plates is lower. The ratio of the compressive proof stress to the tensile proof stress of the plates tensile preworked is from 0.9 to 0.8 independently of the degree of preworking.
