It is a problem awaiting solution whether polymer in paint vehicle for electro-deposition permeates into micropores in anodic oxide films on aluminum or not. Depth profiles of the component of the anodic oxide films were recorded repeating Ar+ sputter etching. The specimens were extracted from practical extrusions electrodeposited and baked or unbaked and those dipped and baked or unbaked. Paint films were removed in conc. H2SO4. No carbon is detected in the micropores in the anodic oxide films. On the viewpoints of accuracy of Auger electron spectroscopy for carbon and of coverage for carbon of paint vehicle permeated in the micropores, the fact mentioned above contradicts such a hypothesis that which polymer permeates into the micropo.
