Molten Al-7%Si-0.3%Mg-0.1%Sb alloys were held for different times, cast at different temperatures and cooled during solidification at different rates. As the alloys are cast at lower temperatures and cooled at accelerated rates, a greater proportion of acicular and rod type Mg-Sb compounds crystallizes. And as the alloys are cast at lower temperatures and cooled at moderated rates, the tensile strength, impact strength and elongation of the cast alloys lower.
