Abstract
The grain growth behavior was measured during superplastic deformation in Al-5%Mg-0.6%Mn alloy, which had fine, equiaxied and second phase particle dispersed structure. The deformation induced component of grain growth could be denoted by (D/Ds), where D and Ds were grain sizes after deformation and after the equivalent annealing without deformation, respectively: this component was presented as In (D/Ds)=αε with α=0.6, independent of strain rate, deformation temperature, initial grain size, and the static component of grain growth. Flow hardening was equal to that expected from the grain growth and the dependency of flow stress on grain size.
