Abstract

Tensile tests were performed on aluminum tricrystals which have parallel constituent single crystals. The tricrystals show flow stresses much higher than those predicted from a rule of mixture of constitutional single crystals. This indicates that the resistance of grain boundaries to dislocations motion is large. The high dislocation density near grain boundaries is confirmed by hardness measurements.
