Abstract
Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology was published from 1984 to 1989 and contains a methodic listing of a large amount of taxonomic data. It is one of the most comprehensive and authoritative works in the field of bacterial taxonomy. However, rapid advances in molecular biology and determination of a large amount of sequencing data of genes coding for the 16S rDNA have resulted in numerous taxonomic rearrangements and changes in nomenclature. Recently, the second edition of Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology was published, and this paper summarizes the present state of the taxonomy of anaerobic Gram positive bacteria.
