Abstract
We studied the effects of YP97 fruit yoghurt on human defecation and fecal characteristics in 63 healthy young women of 19 to 23 years old. The fecal microflora, ammonia concentration, pH and water contents were also examined in 12 healthy adult volunteers of 38 to 66 years old. The total examination period was 6 weeks that included 1-week control period, 2-week placebo period, 1-week interval period between placebo and test period and 2-week test period (administration of YP97 fruit yoghurt 80g per day).As a result, fecal color and refreshing feeling after defecation were improved significantly in the test period compared with the control period in constipation group. The similar effect of YP97 fruit yoghurt administration was observed all of healthy young women. Defecation frequency and fecal quantity were also significantly increased in the test period compared with the control and placebo period. In addition, the number of Bifidobacterium and the ratio of Bifidobacterium to total bacteria were significantly increased in test period compared with control period. The results of this study show that human defecation, fecal characteristics and fecal flora were improved by administration of YP97 fruit yoghurt 80g per day.
