Abstract
It is necessary to make information on web pages accessible to everyone. However, there are currently many web pages on the Internet that cannot be read easily due to poor combinations of character colors and background color. Many web pages also exist that have color arrangements that do not consider people with color vision defects. Thus, many web pages cannot be read easily or at all by people with color vision defects. In this study, we varied the brightness and hue of the character color and background color of a web page to determine which color scheme ensures the best web accessibility for people with color vision deficiencies. We conducted two further experiments with the goal of improving acceptance and satisfaction among people with normal color vision. Although subjects gave subjective evaluations in all experiments, the design of the acceptance experiments was based on the paired comparison method of sensory evaluation, allowing these subjective judgments to be objectively evaluated using a probability scale. The results showed that difference in brightness between text color and background color had the greatest effect on legibility. It was also found that acceptance was improved when the text color was set to a hue with high subjective brightness while the background used a hue with low subjective brightness.
