Abstract
This report describes the statistical nature about the changing state of assembly systems in Japanese machine industries.Analizing the results of a questionnaire survey on assembly plants conducted in 1978,several remarkable trends about automatic assembly, work structuring and assembly lines are presented. The practices in three areas covering the computerized assembly line balancing, mixed-model sequencing and scheduling are also described.
