Abstract
In a job shop, to minimize idle time of the shop and to reduce waiting time of jobs, having backlog to create a buffer against idle time and temporarily increasing its production capacity (for example overtime) are recommended. In this paper, distribution of backlog ot the end of the period and idle time are studied using numerical calculations when such a buffer is created and such a production capacity is temporarily increased. Some characteristics of this control is shown and procedures of deciding parameters to establish a more efficient control over the shop are shown.
