Abstract
A broader understanding of contemporary Austria can be gained by examining the various important influences that have determined its present situation. Firstly, this paper briefly outlines Austria's geography, history, political system and international relations. This is followed by a more detailed description of the state of the economy and industrial structure. Moreover, because education is a fundamental part of any country, the article examines the education system in Austria, with particular emphasis on industrial engineering and management scicnces.
