The Shinho Maru, an ultra-modern energy-saving very large bulk carrier, features more than 11 innovations for energy-saving and minimizing the ship running cost per unit weight of bulk cargo, and these innovations are incorporated so as to achieve, as a whole, the reduction in fuel consumption, labor cost, and maintenance cost.
For the above purpose, D-MAP MARK II diesel ship propulsion plant was employed with Mitsubishi electronic diesel engine remote control system as the plant control system. D-MAP MARK II plant contains a thyristor-controlled shaft generator, in addition to the basic economizer/ turbogenerator system design. The propulsion plant and its control system proved quite successful, true to the expectation.
