The pressure fluctuation of cooling water in the water jacket of a diesel engine is caused by the vibration of the cylinder liner induced by the piston slap. The cavitation bubbles arise from this pressure fluctuation. When the bubble is broken, the impact pressure occurs and give an injury to the wall of the cylinder liner and the cylinder block.
In this study, using a model equipment, the behavior of cavitation bubbles in a model equipment is taken by a photograph using a high speeed camera system (IMACON 790) . Then the influence of the cylinder liner velocity and the water jacket clearance on the total volume and the mean diameter of these bubbles are made clear.
