Abstract
This study aims to clarify the state of community tourism, focusing on intermediary organizations and business operators on the case study of Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture. This study was based on a literature review and interviews with intermediary organizations and business operators. As a result, it was found that although the business operators do not have a sufficient understanding of the concept of community tourism, a variety of businesses were identified that could be considered as community tourism, which were originated from the solutions of local issues. In addition, with regard to the activities of the intermediary organization KTB, it was found that, although the results of activities in line with the concept were recognized, it had not yet led to changes in the local management system to promote tourism.
