Polymorphic Ag_2Se phases have been spontaneously produced on an Ag particle by means of the reaction between Ag and the deposited Se. An Ag particle size dependence of the polymorphism of Ag_2Se has been found. The formation of the selenide phase on the Ag surface through the diffusion of Ag atoms altered the successive growth of selenide according to the amounts of Ag and Se.
