17,19-hexatriacontadiyne (HTDY) molecules form self-assembled lamellar structure in a monolayer on graphite (0001). Upon UV irradiation, the lamellae are converted to sashlike polydiacetylenes (PD) , atomic sashes-I with raised PD chains. Sashes-I are transformed into sashes-II with flat structure by further UV irradiation or maintaining at above ca. 200K.
