The mean density of Thrips palmi on field eggplants was estimated from the proportion of infested eggplant leaves using the equation of Kono and Sugino (1958). Population size was found to be estimated by m=(−2.94×1n(1−p))1.56, where m is the density per leaf and p is the proportion of infested leaves.
