Abstract
In order to bring the origin of homemaking education in the early years of Meiji to light, the regulations and laws governing homemaking education involved by Michiyo Naka were investigated through referential sources. The following results were obtained. 1.He proposed to start and establish homemaking education in order to promote the spread of education among Japanese girls and the betterment of domestic life in Japan. 2.In the period of the amended act of school education(1880), he probed for homemaking education as practical application of chemistry to everyday life, and he introduced cooking into classes for trial. Gradually he paid attention to family relationships as a content of homemaking education. 3.In the period of the re-amended act of school education(1885), he had to give up trying cooking in classes and unwillingly became involved in the bill of homemaking education which was amalgamated with sewing.
