Abstract
The authors aimed at clarifying the relationship between the grades of hand-sewing skill of freshmen and their knowledge and or experiences on clothing construction in their past school days. The materials of this paper was composed of scores of the practical examination of hand-sewing skill, the examination of knowledge on clothing construction, and the questionnaire on their experiences of clothing construction. The subjects were 244 females junior college students. The survey was made in April, 1997. Main result were as follows: 1)What clothes students made in past dis not have an effect on improving their hand-sewing skill. On the contrary, how many clothes they made shows significant relation to their hand-sewing skill. 2)Students who gained a high score in the examination on knowledge of clothing construction also gained a high score in the hand-sewing examination. 3)Students who ordinarily mend their clothes by themselves gained a high score in the hand-sewing examination.
