Abstract
Cargo tank system is a fundamental part of liquefied gas carrier setting the principal design features. With respect to the independent tank systems, prismatic tank system or spherical tank system is generally adopted. In parallel with design improvement of such tank systems, the development of a new tank system has been investgated. In the previous papers, the concept of the system with new-type cylindrical tanks is proposed and the preliminary study is reported.
In this paper, a trial design of the cylindrical tank for a 75, 000 m3 LPG carrier is described. Its strength is estimated in the criteria of stress, buckling and fatigue. Thermal analysis is also performed. Consequently, the designed cargo tank system has been conceptually approved by Nippon Kaiji Kyoukai to be in accordance with the rule of liquefied gas carriers.
