Abstract
In this paper, we discuss how Speech-Language-Hearing Therapists(STs)working in hospitals engage with children who stutter from early childhood to school age using speech therapy and other activities. The approach towards early childhood stuttering includes a follow-up phase and a proactive phase, depending on the age and progress since the stuttering began. To ensure that children who stutter during early childhood receive speech therapy at an appropriate time, collaboration with public health nurses in charge of the medical examination of children is an effective option. It may be challenging for STs who work in hospitals to frequently treat school-age children. In such cases, STs may be able to meet the needs of children and parents by providing speech therapy advice in collaboration with a language disability resource room.
