Abstract
Objective: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the short-term safety and efficacy of laparoscopic surgery in early stage endometrial cancer.
Methods: We analyzed safety and efficacy data of 20 cases that underwent laparoscopic hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy for early stage endometrial cancer between August 2012 and September 2013. Based on the approval by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, this treatment was performed in the “Advanced Medical Treatment” administration system.
Results: Laparoscopic surgery was safely completed for all cases without blood transfusion and conversion to laparotomy. The average operation time was 224 minutes: the average blood loss, 193ml: the average number of removed lymph nodes, 21.4: and the average hospital stay, 5.4 days. No severe complication was observed.
Conclusion: The laparoscopic surgery for early stage endometrial cancer was feasible and safe in terms of short-term outcomes. Further analysis of follow-up data will be warranted to evaluate the long-term outcomes.
