Abstract
The present case was a 52-year-old man who underwent laparoscopy-assisted total gastrectomy with lower esophagectomy and Roux-en-Y reconstruction for Barrettʼs esophageal cancer. He complained of sudden chest pain and dyspnea three hours after operatrion. The computed tomography scan showed the dilated intestine in the left thoracic space, and we diagnosed transhiatal Roux-en-Y jejunum prolapse. The repair of the esophageal hiatus hernia was performed immediately. The operative findings showed that the Roux-en-Y jejunum was incarcerated into the left thoracic cavity through the esophageal hiatus. The herniated intestine was reduced into the abdominal cavity, and the hernia orifice was occluded by suturing the left wall of the diaphragm crus. Since transhiatal Roux-en-Y jejunum prolapse after surgery is rare, we reported the case with some discussions.
