Relationship between emotions and acoustical parameters of voice sounds are discussed in this paper. Emotions treated here are “surprise”, “joy”, “fear” and “disgust”. Parameters focused on here are duration of sound, amplitude, pitch period and slope of spectral envelope. By varying values of these parameters of the vowel [e], stimulus sounds are synthesized. To evaluate these sounds, paired comparison listening tests are carried out. As the results of these tests, emotions which are expressed by the sounds, are scaled by Thurston's case V. From these analysis, acoustical parameters are found, which effect on judging the emotions from synthesized sounds.
