Abstract
In this paper, principal indices for voice quality are experimentally abstracted, which are effective on subjective evaluation of synthesized voice. First, 20 adults write down expressive terms for evaluating human voice, answering questionnaire. They give 516 kinds of expressive terms in total. From those terms, 26 pairs of terms are selected, which are generally used. Second, 21 adults read Japanese nonsense syllables, and their voice is recorded. The voice is used as stimulus on subjective evaluation test. Stimulus of each reader is presented to 18 subjects, and is evaluated with the 26 indices. The average score of the test is analyzed by the method of the principal components analysis and the Varimax rotation. As the results, clearness, hardness, manliness and individuality are given as the principal components. These indices are effective for subjective evaluation test of synthesized voices.
