Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between the response strategy in verification and the subjective MWL (Mental Workload) as one guideline of adjustment of individual differences in MWL. Four tasks consisting of combination of letters and signs, were applied in this experiment. The response strategies are identified as a linguistic, a spatial, or a mixed strategy (MacLeod and Hunt, 1978). The results are as follows;
(1) There are individual differences in response strategy for the same task and subjective MWL is higher in the linguistic group than in any other groups.
(2) It is suggested that subjective MWL would be most greatly reduced, if MWL can be reduced at the time of verification in a spatial group, and at the time of comprehension in a linguistic group.
