Abstract

months after clear cutting, but after 2.5 years, almost all leaves were green. Seedlings grew in height from 1 year after clear cutting. The percentage of small branches with leaves in the clear-cut stand was reduced after clear cutting, but was the same as that observed for the control stand after 1.75 years, and was significantly higher than that of the control stand after 2.75 years. The results of this study suggest that clear cutting of overstory trees enhances the growth of previously suppressed, advance regeneration of Sakhalin fir.
