Abstract
With the advent of an aging society, the number of patients who experience multiple cancers in the head and neck region is increasing. In addition, recent dramatic improvements in radiology and endoscopic diagnostic techniques have made it possible to detect these multiple cancers at an early stage. Since patients with multiple cancers tend to undergo treatment with a higher intensity than usual, the treatment policy must be considered differently from those of ordinary patients with head and neck cancer. In this paper, we report three cases of multiple cancers in the head and neck region, then discuss the actual treatment. In particular, cases of head and neck cancer combined with esophageal cancer need to be treated by extended resection or extended irradiation, and careful determination of the treatment strategy is required. When treating multiple cancers of the head and neck, it is necessary to select treatment modalities from various options through collaboration and consultation with multiple departments. Establishing a multidisciplinary team is crucial to perform safe and effective treatments for the patients.
