Abstract
The purpose of this study is to clarify the relation between the grade of histopathological malignancy of the tongue squamous cell carcinoma and the frequency of the subsequent cervical lymph node metastases. Among the 177 cases of tongue carcinomas treated during the 11 years between 1978 and 1989 at the 1st Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistory, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, the cases of T1 (56 cases) and T2 (80 cases) were analysed.
The higher the histopathological Grade of malignancy was, the higher the frequency of subsequent cervical lymph node metastases was.
This finding is evident in the patients treated by irradiation. But in the patient treated by surgery such relation was not recognized.
