Abstract
Anatomical comparison, especially position to insert the first interneural spine and number of the pyloric caeca, was carried out on the eleven species belonging to four genera of family Mugildae collected from Japan, Formosa and these adjacent waters.
New key as shown in table 2 can be used for the identification of these smaller fish less than five centi-metre in bodylength.
