Abstract

Summary The occurrence of the boar fish, Pseudopentaceros richardsoni, is very rare, although the known localities are widely distributed in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, such as off the coasts of South Africa, New Zealand, Bôsô Peninsula near Tokyo, Hachijô Island, and North Pacific near Alaska. As no record on the young of this species has been made, we described four specimens of the young obtained from the surface water of the open sea near the Alutian Islands. Those fish gathered underneath the lightlamp of a whaling vessel were taken with the hand net at a night of late June, 1967.
