Signigobius biocellatus is described as a new genus and species of coral reef gobiid fish from Palau, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, New Guinea, and the Great Barrier Reef, The genus is compared with other sand-dwelling coral reef genera in morphological and ecological aspects.The genus is most similar in these aspects to the genus Valenciennea.
