Abstract
Electromyograms were recorded from the lateral trunk musculature of ovipositing carp.At oviposition the muscles on both sides facing each other fired alternately, while those on the same side did almost simultaneously. The ovipositing actions of the carp are assumed to be simple, very rapid body bendings, closely resembling so-called burst swimming. The differences between the two actions could not be determined on electromyograms in this study.
