A New Cyprinid Fish, Hampala salweenensis, from the Mae Pai River System, Salween Basin, Thailand

Abstract

A new cyprinid fish, Hampala salweenensis, is described from three specimens collected frm the Mae Pai River system, Mae Hong Son, northwestern Thailand. The species is distinguishable fro its congeners by the combination of the following characters: total lateral line scales 26-27; two roundish black blotches on body side; upper and lower edges of caudal fin with a black marginal band.
