Abstract

Effects of autonomic suppressants on experimental mycoses in mice were studied.
Intranasal inoculation of fresh cells of Candida alhicans caused a marked lung consolidation in mice. The death as well as lung consolidation could be prevented by prior injection of an adequate dose of autonomic suppressants. These results may show that the production of lung hemorrhage may be due to the powerful vasodilator effect of Candida albicans cells, probably acting on nerve endings. It was also confirmed that when Candida albicans, Aspergillus fumigatus or Cryptococcus neoformans wereinoculated intra-nasally, intraperitoneally or per os into mice, earlier disappearance of the inoculated fungi in thorax, lung, digestive tube, liver, spleen and kidney was seen in the chlorpromazine treated mice than in the non-treated.
