We have developed a hardware and software system for the analysis of bloodflow dynamics using the data obtained by the DSA examinations. DSA images are transferred as video images to an image processor unit located at a distance of 70in from DSA apparatus. We applied deconvolution technique to derive a transfer function of cerebral vascular beds. Regions of interest were located at the right and left internal carotide arteries, the middle cerebral arteries, and the cortical veins. Some preliminary results were obtained for normals and cases with cerebral infarction. When transfer functions were compared between the right and left hemispheres, the peak time (PT) and FWHM (PW) were almost equal for normal cases. However, for the cases with cerebral infarction, both PT and PW were increased in the infarction side than in the opposite non-infarction side. The PT and PWof the transfer function in the non-infarction side were slightly increased than those of normal cases. This analysis has the possibility to evaluate the vascular changes quantitatively, and then to predict the prognosis of patients with cerebral infarction.
