Abstract

Adenolymphoma is a benign epithelial tumor of the salivary gland that is rarely found at the lower end of the parotid gland. Here we report 2 cases of adenolymphoma complicated by tongue cancer.
Case 1 was a 71-year-old man who consulted our department for difficulty in ingesting food, caused by stomatitis after receiving radiation and chemotherapy at the department of oral surgery of another university. His diagnosis was tongue cancer with metastasis of the ipsilateral cervical lymph nodes.
Although the site of the primary cancer was unknown, pathological examination of tissue removed from the cervical region led to a diagnosis of adenolymphoma.
Case 2 was a 59-year-old man who consulted our department for tongue haphalgesia. The presence of a malignant tongue tumor as well as a parotid gland tumor was suspected and further evaluations were performed. The results of histopathological examinations led to a diagnosis of tongue cancer with adenolymphoma.
Both of the cases described above had tongue cancer with adenolymphoma on the same side. Such cases are considered extremely rare and none have been reported in the past.
