Progress of the Cryptomeria japonica pollen front in 2019 (Fig. 1) was monitored by tracking the first day of pollen release using a Durham sampler at 83 sites and an IS-Rotary sampler at seven sites, distributed from Kyushu to Hokkaido. Results from the Durham sampler showed that in early February, the pollen front had reached all of Kyushu, southern Shikoku and western Chugoku, Tokai and southern Kanto. By mid-February, the front had passed through almost all parts of the Kinki and Kanto regions, and northern Shikoku. By late February, the front had moved up to central Chubu, Hokuriku, and southern- to- central Tohoku. By early to mid-March, the front was observed in northern Tohoku. The front finally arrived in eastern Hokkaido in early to mid-April.
