Progress of the Cryptomeria japonica pollen front in 2020 was monitored by tracking the first day of pollen release using a Durham sampler at 84 sites and an IS-Rotary sampler at eight sites, distributed from Kyushu to Hokkaido in Japan (Fig.2). Results from the Durham sampler showed that by late January, the pollen front had reached parts of northern Kyushu, western Shikoku, and western Chugoku that faced the Seto Inland Sea, and parts of Tokai and southern Kanto that faced the Pacific Ocean. By early February, the front had reached areas of central Kyushu, eastern Shikoku, western Chugoku that faced the Sea of Japan, and parts of southern and northern Kinki, as well as the Tokai and southern Kanto regions. By mid-February, the front had passed through central Chugoku, northern Kinki, Hokuriku, central Chubu, northern Kanto, and unexpectedly, parts of southern Kyushu. By late February, the front had reached southern to central Tohoku, and by early March, the front was observed in northern Tohoku. The front finally arrived in eastern to central Hokkaido in mid-March.
