Lipomas are among the most common benign tumors, typically occurring on the posterior neck and trunk. While these tumors can grow significantly over time, there have been no reports of giant suspensory lipoma transforming into a malignancy. We report the case of a 51-year-old woman who first noticed a fist-sized mass in the lower left abdomen in 2014. She presented to our hospital in 2024 due to progressive enlargement. Examination revealed a pedunculated mass measuring approximately 30×30 cm in the lower left abdomen, with ulceration at its tip and sclerosis of the surrounding subcutaneous tissue. Marginal resection was performed, and histopathological analysis confirmed a diagnosis of well-differentiated liposarcoma.
This case illustrates the transformation of a giant suspensory lipoma into a well-differentiated liposarcoma, likely influenced by chronic inflammation.
