Abstract
We report a case of 13 year-old boy with Duchenne type muscular dystrophy (DMD), who experienced a sudden cardio-pulmonary arrest before he develops any sign of respiratory failure.A deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his pelvic cavity revealed by RI-venography suggested the occurrence of a pulmonary thromboembolism as a cause of the episode.
Pulmonary infarction has been reported as a cause of sudden death in some DMD patients, and hypercoagulable state is common in DMD patients. Our case also had an elevated level of thrombinantithrombin III complex (TAT).
This is the first case report of a proven DVT as a cause of pulmonary infarction in DMD patients.
