Abstract
The average duration of sleep in Japanese decreased by 1 hour over the last 40 years, and this trend is also found in students. They show strong daytime sleepiness, compared with adults. Previous studies have showed their poor sleep habits are related with various problems. Therefore, in this article, development of sleep from infants to university students is reviewed. Adverse effects of the poor sleep habits on their daytime function and social factors of their sleep habits are also reviewed in this article.
