The lower first molar on the right side was carved in 1.5×1.5×10cm block of dental plaster by 130 dental students at 5th-year grade and the carved products were stored. After 1 year and 10 months, the same students now at 6th-year grade were demanded to carve the lower first molar under the same condition again. 130 pairs of carving products were gathered in this manner.
130 pairs of carving products were now evaluated by three selected raters and compared each other. The obtained results were as follows:
1) There was considerable high correlation concerning carving skill between 5th-and 6th-year grade of dental students. This fact suggests that dental students with poor carving skill need some supplemental trainning course.
2) It was demonstrated that carving skill of 6th-year grade was definitely superior to that of 5th-year grade. This could be a result of the present educational program.
