The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of various staining materials and heating rates on the surface texture and mechanical properties of castable ceramics (OCC®) during crown fabrication.
The results were as follows:
1. Surface roughness and bending strength of the stained specimens were not influenced by the different kinds of staining materials and heating rates.
2. Surface gloss of the stained specimens tended to increase at a low heating rate.
3. Surface roughness of the stained specimens decreased, but bending strength was smaller than that of the sandblasted specimens.
It was found that the existence of a stain layer exerts a major influence on mechanical properties.
4. There was no relation between thickness of the stain layer and the bending strength.
